In the last week I’ve had some friends and family visit Boston and the surrounding area. My friend Cindy, who lives in New Mexico, was in town for a training last week. One aunt and uncle came here from Honduras to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Another friend, Alex from Portugal, has been working up in Portsmouth, NH for the last week or so. This upcoming weekend, Mike, who I know through my website will be flying up from the DC area to help his daughter move. My cousin Amy, from New York, is also coming up for the long holiday weekend.

I had dinner with Cindy. Married life seems to be treating her well as we approach her first anniversary. She was in town for a technical training. We went down to the Boston Sail Loft, which is right on the Inner Harbor in Boston, about a block from the Boston Sailing Center. The harbor can be very pretty at night. It is also amazing to see how the city has changed since I first saw it as a child a quarter century ago. The Big Dig has drastically changed much of what I remember from when I was growing up—mostly for the better. I think Cindy likes our fair city, and I hope she gets a chance to work here when her current posting is over.

My aunt and uncle came up from Honduras to celebrate my mother’s birthday with another aunt and uncle from New York City. They are two of my mother’s four brothers. I don’t know why her sister didn’t come up with them. Oh well. We hadn’t expected them to come all the way from Honduras…. and my mother was very happily surprised to see them. We all went out to lunch at the Wok, which is a Chinese restaurant that has been around forever.

Alex, a fellow sailor I know through an on-line sailing forum, has been working up in New Hampshire for the past week. This is a trip he makes about once a year, but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to meet him. He’s a bit homesick, since he has a beautiful wife and two sons, one nine years old and the other a toddler. Fortunately, he’s flying back this weekend. His son Fred also sails, mainly racing on Optimists.

Mike is looking at getting a Telstar, and wants to take a look at the Pretty Gee. He and I have talked about the boat and I hope to be able to show him the boat this weekend. His daughter also lives in the Boston area, but has just taken a job in New York, and he’s helping her move.

My cousin Amy, whose parents were up visiting last weekend for my mother’s birthday, is coming to see some of her friends, as she went to college in Boston. She’s also planning on spending some time at my sister’s condo out on Cape Cod.

Hmmm, that’s lot of visitors to my neck of the woods. Otherwise, I’ve been busy with projects down at the marina.
