The Bridgedeck
Well, it’s been a few weeks since I started my spring projects on the Pretty Gee. I’ve decided to make it a permanent installation, instead of a removable locker. I’ve gotten some 3/8″ plywood and will be roughing out the shape of the locker with it. The plywood will be the core of the locker installation and be fiberglassed into place.
Originally, I had been planning on making the bridgedeck as high as the cockpit seats, but doing the measurements this morning, I realized that it would make more sense to make the bridgedeck the height of the second step in the cockpit. This will close off less of the companionway, but still provide a fair amount of protection for the cabin from water in the cockpit.
I’m hoping to get the rough shape of the locker roughed in this week. I’ll post some photos of the installation, once I’ve made a bit more progress.
The Stereo System
I’ve gotten the stereo mounted on the nav console. While it isn’t ideal, but it is probably the best I can do with the space I have. The stereo is connected to two speakers in the cockpit, which are mounted in the aft bulkhead of the cockpit footwell.
It is also going to be connected to two speakers that will be mounted in the forward corners of the cabin, on the forward bulkhead. I’ve mounted the starboard one, but the port one will have to wait until the mast is up and the cabin has less equipment stored in it. The boom and sails are currently in my way—preventing me from completing the installation at the moment.
I’ve also mounted a wired remote control for the stereo system in the cockpit. It is located on the starboard cockpit seat. It is mounted opposite the outlet for the autopilot…. and should be reasonably accessible for anyone in the cockpit. This remote allows you to turn on the stereo, change the audio source, CD, track number or radio station, and volume without going into the cabin.
