I think a well-regulated militia and the right to bear arms is a good counterbalance to overly authoritative governments coming into power.

I was only teasing you about the Latin and I understand the reasons in US history why there is some concern about federal use of the military. However it does seem that there might be occasions when a modern state might need to deploy its national army internally - e.g. to maintain order after a nuclear or major biological attack.

Surely it would make more sense to get rid of that amendment to the constitution that talks about the importance of a "well regulated militia" and the "right to bear arms". Is Hezbollah a well-regulated militia?

Tillerman-

Back in the 1800s, Latin was still considered the language of an educated people...I wouldn't support repealing the Posse Comitatus act, even though that is essentially what Bush has managed to do, but renaming it in English would make a lot of sense. Many of today's laws, which are in English, don't make much sense if you look at their names either.

On balance, I support repealing laws that are written in Latin.
