For Me
While Tillerman has been blogging about the start of the spring sailing season, it hasn’t started for me quite yet. That is about to change.
Today, I spent most of the day packing two crates of equipment to take down to Annapolis. The crates have a lot of the USCG-required safety gear: PFDs, two B-1 fire extinguishers, a handheld VHF, dayshapes, an air horn, an ORC SOLAS-grade flare kit, and MARPOL and Oil Discharge placards. I’ve also got a flagstaff, ensign, six-gallon gas tank, and locks for the outboard motor, trailer coupler and trailer hitch in the crates.
On Monday, I am driving down to Annapolis, Maryland.
On Tuesday, I’m meeting with Will, over at Performance Cruising to arrange for commissioning my boat. The boat has been ready since the end of March, but the electrical system upgrades I asked Peter Kennedy to make to the boat caused some delays.
I am also meeting with Peter Kennedy to finalize the electrical system upgrades. The major delay has been caused by the design of the mounting system for the two 130-Watt solar panels. With luck, the panel mounting system should be finished by Wednesday or Thursday.
I’m planning to drive back with the Pretty Gee on either Thursday or Friday. I hope to have her in the water, in the Acushnet River, on Saturday. I hope to be sailing most of next weekend. Originally, I was going to have a christening ceremony down in Annapolis, but I’ve decided that I’d rather have the service up in Fairhaven, the homeport of the Pretty Gee.
I’ll post some photos when I get a chance. As soon as I know more, I’ll post an update. Blogging will probably be a bit light until I get back. I’m really excited. I’ve been waiting for this week a long time.
