Different Types of Sailors

Posted on Wednesday 22 March 2006

I’ve been thinking about the different kind of sailors I know.

There are racing sailors, lake sailors, day sailors, coastal cruisers, and bluewater sailors. There are the new sailors, casual sailors, and life-long sailors. There are dinghy sailors, keelboat sailors and multihull sailors.

I think Tillerman is a dinghy sailor, who loves Lasers. Carol Anne is a sailor, learning to become a racing sailor. Sherry is a sailor, who teaches other sailors to race. John is a coastal cruiser, looking to get a Telstar next year. Webb is a bluewater sailor based in New Zealand. Jesse is a racing sailor, who tries to teach, but fails in many ways, in my opinion. Nannette is a new sailor, still learning the ropes and trying to figure out what kind of sailing she wants to do. Dave is a sailor, who lives to teach sailing. Hilary and her fiancé are multihull sailors, on a Corsair F31.

What kind of sailor are you?

    Heavy sigh.

    A landlocked one.

Just looking at your Pretty Gee come together helps, though.

I’d planned on doing my first crossing, from the Azores back to Spain, in June, but I’ve just decided it’ll have to wait a year.
