King George Revisited

Posted on Sunday 26 February 2006

George W. Bush has been President for a little over five years. He has yet to exercise his right to veto laws passed by Congress. This week, he has finally threatened to use his power of veto, and what is he planning on vetoing? A law which would prevent a company based in the United Arab Emirates, a known haven of terrorism, from taking over control of six major American ports.

Even though George W. Bush is in favor of allowing the UAE-based Dubai Port Co. to take control of six major US ports, he claims to only have heard about the deal after the deal was approved. He also claims that the deal won’t compromise security at the ports.

The United Arab Emirates, which owns Dubai Port Co., gave a $1 million contribution the the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library as seen in this article.

Did the $1 million donation have anything to do with King George’s willingness to make sure Dubai Ports World gets control of the six ports in question? Have the connections the Bush family have to the various families in the Middle East affected the Bush government’s response to September 11, 2001 or the response to terrorists.
